Toronto Folk Rocker Deadly Alfano Carves Out a Sanctuary of Red Clay and Renaissance Spirit on New Single "Shelter"

Cities of red earth rise out of the Moroccan landscape, shaped by hand from clay that can be moulded, reshaped, and formed again and again.
That timeless image sits at the heart of Deadly Alfano, the captivating new solo project from veteran Toronto musician and songwriter Francesco Alfano, who has released his soulful new single "Shelter."

Blending acoustic warmth, folk rock drive and the textures of world music, "Shelter" opens the door to a project devoted to humanism, spirituality, belonging and the thrill of connecting to something far bigger than ourselves.

"Shelter" is a song about finding refuge and making self-preservation a priority. It invites listeners to carve out a space where the noise of the outside world falls away, and they can reconnect with who they truly are. With our attention constantly pulled in a hundred directions, Alfano offers a gentle, uplifting reminder to protect our mental and spiritual wellbeing. The song opens with a vivid call, "Run to the shelter, here and thereafter, faces made of clay," before settling into a chorus of hard-won wisdom: "Love will find a way / The proverbs advocate."

The visuals, sound and spirit of Deadly Alfano draw heavily from Morocco, red clay, the natural world, and the Renaissance. Morocco has always spoken to Alfano, especially its cities built from red earth, and clay became his metaphor for the human mind, something that can always be shaped and transformed. The Renaissance brings a similar sense of wonder: the humanist courage to question established ideas and see the world with fresh eyes. That curiosity comes through in the lyrics as Alfano gently challenges the pull of modern consumer culture with the line "Material possessions I say, are your enemies," pointing listeners toward patience, forgiveness, and love.

"Shelter" was produced by J.C. Sandoval of Toronto's St. Doval, mixed by Andrew Lauzon at Hamilton's storied Grant Avenue Studio and mastered by Noah Mintz at Lacquer Channel. Together, they give the song a rich, atmospheric glow that frames Alfano's voice and guitar beautifully.

Music has been a lifelong passion for Alfano. He previously fronted the Toronto band Lucid Movement, playing original music at some of the city's most celebrated stages, including the Horseshoe Tavern, Lee's Palace, the Bovine Sex Club, and the Rivoli, as well as venues throughout Ontario and Quebec. More recently, he has been performing with St. Doval, including an Ontario tour in fall 2025. With Deadly Alfano, he steps into a more personal, expansive creative space, crafting songs that are intimate, atmospheric, and rooted in storytelling.

Onstage, Alfano leads the project on lead vocals and guitar, joined by Sandoval on bass and backing vocals, Trison Boyes on second guitar and backing vocals and Adam Houle on drums. A music video for "Shelter" is on the way, and fans can celebrate the single live at a release show at Toronto's Hard Luck Bar on October 15.

Curiosity, spirituality, and connection guide everything Deadly Alfano creates, with songs that encourage listeners to stay open to new perspectives and recognize their place within something much larger. With "Shelter" leading the way, Francesco Alfano is stepping into an inspiring new chapter devoted to music with deeper purpose.
